The title, Between Friends, can be interpreted on several levels; it reflects the intimate acoustical environment of the guitar/flute combination, as well as my desire to write a piece that, despite being technically demanding, is fun and engaging for the performers. With its emphasis on tone color, and use of silence as an important compositional parameter, Between Friends reflects the influence   of one of my favorite composers, Toru Takemitsu.
